Many fans will have an added interest in Super Bowl XLV Sunday between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers. They’ll be rooting for their “boxes” or their “squares“.

In the most common variation of the pool, each box holder is assigned a number between 0-9 for each team. If the number in the box matches the last digit in the score at the end of each quarter, that box holder wins. Here’s how the first 40 Super Bowls have paid out:

My favorite strategy that I like to employ every year is to purchase a full diagonal or other arrangement which locks in each number for both teams. No matter what the score is, I will have one of the numbers for one of the teams. Then every time the score changes, I have a chance it can land on me. Sure, it’s all luck but I enjoy playing this way.

I recently had all of my FTP passwords compromised and all of my sites attacked with a PHP injection script that installs viruses that steal more passwords. Now I am debating the value of continuing to maintain my websites:

I haven’t had any true successes. Sure, there was some fun and a lot of learning along the way. I think some ideas could be a success story if only I could dedicate some time to them. Give me one good reason I should spend the time to maintain these sites, maybe even add features as I have time.
